Hattie G. Brown was born September 21, 1960 to Adolphus N. Brown and Emma Ewell Brown.  She is the eleventh child out of twelve and the baby girl.  Hattie was raised on a farm in the Mt. Laurel Community. She attended Halifax County High School and graduated in 1978.  The following are a list of her accomplishments after graduation:

• Trade School in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in 1978

• Joined the U.S. Army September 22, 1980 one day after her 20^th birthday

•  Attended Air Assault School in Kentucky, in 1982.

•  Attended AirBorne School in North Carolina in 1983

• Hattie was the only female in her Unit

• Served in Desert Storm in 1991

• Became a First Class Sergeant (E7)

• Retired from U.S. Army June 30, 1998
