Golden Corral/Easton completed an unprecedented sweep of all three Major State Championships by winning the USSSA State in Petersburg, VA this weekend.
GC provided just enough offense and plenty of bigtime defensive stops to hold on at the end and take the championship.  In the opener, The Corral met DCF Construction.  GC jumped out to a quick lead, but DCF battled back in the early innings.  GC added 6 runs in the sixth, however, to pull away by 10 and held the lead in the seventh for a 22-16 win.  Next up for Golden Corral was the same VFW 632 team that had battled for the ASA Championship just a week ago.  Both teams were ready for the match-up as the runs started pouring in early.  The teams were matching each other nearly run for run, but VFW would come up 1 run short, as GC moves into the undefeated game with a 25-24 win.  R&S Auction was the opponent in the winner's bracket final.  There was less offense and more defense in this one as both teams struggled to maintain long hitting rallies.  GC carried a 4-run lead into the bottom of the seventh, only to see R&S come out hitting and knock off 3 runs quickly.  A couple of outstanding defensive plays in the infield preserved the win with the tying run on third.  GC wins it, 11-10.  R&S would battle back to face Golden Corral again.  The Corral jumped out to an early lead and appeared ready to cruise home with the title, but R&S had too much fight in them.  They scored big in the middle innings and took the lead in the sixth.  After The Corral regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth, R&S came out hitting again and tied the game in the top of the seventh.  Golden Corral, then, pushed the game-winning run across with two outs to win the championship.
Congratulations to all the teams who competed this weekend.  There were many exciting games that were not decided until the end.
