The essay you quoted has a fatal flaw. It implies that corporations can act independently of the rules of Supply and Demand.

I think Bill Gates said it best when testifying, "Microsoft is only as good as our latest product. If someone else can do it better, we're history."

Case in point: The Federal Government thought of AT&T as being such a monster that it had to be broken up. Now, AT&T is fighting for it's very survival and will probably cease to exist as we know it.

Another case in point NOT involving government intrustion: Folks once thought of IBM as being untouchable. Of course, it's not nearly the powerhouse anymore.

There are just too many examples all around us of corporations failing miserably in trying to force stuff on us we don't want. How about the Edsel? Can you say "New Coke"?

I think the "corporate elite" as you put it would just LOVE to have as much power as this article suggests they have!
